‘The stories of Mirko Bortolotti and Lamborghini Squadra Corse crossed in 2015. This is when the driver from Trentino was lined up as a Factory Driver for the debut of the new Huracán GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series. Since then, he has always been linked to the brand of the Bull and considered a reference point for his experience and professionalism. Not only among the Lamborghini Factory Drivers but also in the entire world of GT competitions. His qualities as a Brand Ambassador made the Squadra Corse staff choose him as a driver for a really special day. Mirko was, in fact, behind the wheel during the dynamic shooting of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo. The car that will animate the one-make series Lamborghini Super Trofeo 2018.

Mirko, it’s not the first time you’ve been sitting behind the wheel of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo. As you’ve already participated in various development tests, can you tell us your impressions about the car and what strikes you most about it?

Exactly, before this day of dynamic shooting, I had the opportunity to see and test the car during the development tests. However, this was the first time I could see the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo in its official 2018 “Roger Dubuis” livery. In my opinion, from an aesthetic point of view, it’s one of the most beautiful racing cars ever. Additionally, Centro Stile Lamborghini did a really incredible job in choosing the colors and shapes of the official livery. They succeeded in emphasizing the aggressive but yet very refined forms of the car.

Let’s talk about the shooting, how was your day?

The appointment at the racetrack was set for 6:00 a.m. The first two hours were used by the crew to prepare the equipment and fine-tune the cameras according to the particular light conditions. I got in the car shortly after 8:00 a.m. and we finished shooting 12 hours afterwards. We only carved out a few-minute break to refuel and attend the meetings with the Squadra Corse staff and video crew. You won’t find it hard to believe that I went to bed early that night, but at the same time I was also very satisfied with the job done.

Technically, how did you coordinate with the crew on the track?

I was in constant radio connection both with the video director on the car equipped with a Russian Arm (a special vehicle for high-speed video shooting) and the Squadra Corse engineers. During the breaks, I was involved in the shooting schedule and was informed about the targets of the shots and movements of the camera. Participating actively in these meetings was a very stimulating experience. I discovered firsthand how much work and technical skills are required to produce quality video and photo materials with such complex instruments.

We guess it was not easy to control the 620hp of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo on track with the constant presence, at a few meters’ distance, of a SUV equipped with a 5-meter arm of 250Kg with a camera at its end.

No, you won’t believe it, but it was the opposite. I was pleasantly impressed by the quality of the job done by the crew as well as by their professionalism and competence. The crew on the SUV consisted of three people: a driver, a technician and a cameramen, who adjusted the camera according to the scenes and lights. The level of coordination and experience of the crew was so high to make me forget about their presence while driving. Every single move was planned and anticipated and I never found myself in trouble.

So this is a kind of experience you would repeat?

Absolutely, when the Squadra Corse staff asked me to take part in video-shooting days, I always accepted with enthusiasm. I’ll always remember a day I spent on Livigno’s snow in a Huracán Super Trofeo a few years ago and the filming day of the Huracán GT3. In addition, the Squadra Corse staff always finds a way not to make shooting days banal. They always find new original ideas for the storytelling of videos.

Judging by your words, you seem enthusiastic about the new car. If you had the right chance, would you participate in a round of the Super Trofeo 2018 with the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo?

What made the Huracàn Super Trofeo unique is that this car has meet the needs both of professional and gentlemen drivers. Together with the engineers of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, we’ve further improved this characteristic. I’d be really curious to test the car during a race weekend. Maybe share the cockpit with one of the many drivers of the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program taking part in the Super Trofeo.
